Sit behind the wheel of an RX and you’re instantly struck by wide sweep of the excitingly futuristic dashboard design. The dual zone ‘crossover’ cockpit is a masterful example of ergonomic layout, with none of the information overload common with some modern cars. The steering wheel itself feels relaxing and easy to grip, with a wood finish and heated rims also available.
The centrepiece of the console is a crystal clear, 8-inch LED display with multi-screen capability. From here, the driver can view three types of information: depending on the screen selected, just a glance reveals performance information, navigation or maps, audio, climate control or incoming calls.
The intuitively placed 2nd generation Remote Touch controller allows the operation of many of the car’s functions without distracting the driver, as do the steering wheel controls. A Head-Up Display (developed in the bright snow of North Japan), projecting key information such as speed, onto the bottom of the windscreen is designed to reduce eye movement and keep you focussed on the road ahead.
The display also features a convenient Parking Assist Monitor, where a rear video camera will feed images of what’s behind the car for problem-free parking. All in all, the dashboard is a beautiful, intuitive mix of exquisitely detailed aesthetics and technological innovation.
