As part of the Lexus Yet Experience, Lexus provided its Milan Design Week guests with a new perspective on the meaning and relevance of Takumi craftsmanship – one of the four pillars of its brand – with an introduction to the world-renowned Missoni fashion house. The making of luxury motor vehicles and high-end knitwear may seem worlds apart, but in fact Lexus and Missoni share common thinking about the value of traditional skills in achieving the finest quality and distinctive design.
The Missoni factory is located in the rolling countryside outside Milan, in the town of Sumirago. Here Lexus’ media guests were given an exclusive tour where they experienced first-hand the extraordinary craftsmanship and magnificent culture that are at the heart of Missoni.
The company is known and respected for its aesthetic innovation and its reinvention of traditional techniques, and it ranks among the world’s most distinguished fashion labels. In the same spirit as Lexus’ Takumi craftspeople, Missoni’s designers are true masters of their craft. They push the boundaries of creativity and have transformed the world of fine knitwear, making the brand’s colourful zig-zag patterns a globally recognised trademark for their work.
Much of Missoni’s success can be attributed to the way it has perfectly harmonised artisanal Italian tailoring with avant-garde artistic vision, a combination which continues to produce masterpieces in fashion and design.
Lexus’ guests learned from members of the Missoni family themselves about the label’s creative processes and its rich history of outstanding craftsmanship. As they were led through each of the production divisions, from original design to the weaving of finished garments, they found themselves immersed in an atmosphere of excellence.
