The historic La Pista circuit in Arese has been beautifully restored and upgraded as a modern-day test track and was the ideal location in which to sample the exhilarating driving experience provided Lexus’ latest “F” performance models, the RC F coupe and GS F saloon.
To show just what these cars are capable of, guests were taken on a sequence of high-speed laps with professional drivers at the wheel. Then, to enjoy a real hands-on experience, they were able to drive the cars for further laps themselves.
Before setting out, they were told it was Lexus’ aim to take their heart rate above 120 beats per minute, so each guest wore a bracelet monitor during their drive. Certainly the cars had the ability to thrill, powered by 477 DIN hp V8 engines and capable of speeding from standstill to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds, and on to a breathtaking top speed of 270km/h. Each driver’s pulse was tracked on a display lap after lap and their amazed reactions as they raced around the track were captured by GoPro video cameras inside the cars.
La Pista also hosted a static display of the all-new Lexus LS, a flagship luxury saloon that will join the Lexus range later this year. Guests were able to take a close-up look at the latest developments in Lexus vehicle design and admire detailing that demonstrates the finest work of the Takumi craftspeople.
The car’s exceptional interior finishing includes hand-pleated door trims inspired by Origami, the Japanese art of creating three-dimensional forms from a single piece of paper. The pattern on the LS’ interior door panels captures the iconic Lexus “L” motif in its precise and intricate folds, conveying a different visual effects when viewed in daylight, or under the cabin’s night-time illumination. Each door trim is individually made by hand by a team of master craftspeople who have also specialised in haute couture design.
